Lead camp pencil CW. Condition excellent. Most pencils are just shaved bullets. This long shaped piece of lead most likely came from slag of the bullet molds while pouring. Made by soldiers in campsites. Used to write letters home to family. Found in the Dug Springs battlefield of Aug 2 1861 in SW Missouri.
These troops moved days later to fight at Wilsons Creek. Wonderful find guaranteed to be from this battle and campsite. I have one of the best metal detector enthusiast in the area for over 45 years. Once in a while he brings me a few items of local finds for the store.
